Noun from root בָּטַח (batach — to trust, be confident, be secure). Properly “a place of refuge”; abstractly: safety (both the fact of security and the feeling of confidence/trust). Occurs ~42× in the OT. Meanings include assurance, boldly, without care, confidence, hope, safely, secure, surely. Often adverbial: “in safety.” BDB/Strong’s: the resulting security that comes when one trusts — never self-produced, always bestowed.
